So what ideas have you had recently that seemed like easy ideas before you started them? For me, it was this latest full size drawing. And by full size I mean ginormous. For me. I usually work on paper that is 9x12 or smaller. This piece is 18x24, because I have a pad of 18x24 drawing paper that really needs to be used. The original plan was to just make a simple "woman in nature" sort of drawing, which has been sort of a theme for me this year. In my head it was just going to be basic line art with some filler doodles. And what can I say? It got a little out of hand. I also thought it would only take a "few days". It took about three weeks. Here it is though. All finished and looking very leafy. Click the read more link to see the progress shots from sketch to finish, and some closeups for details! OH! And look for hidden images. A few things nestled in Nature's embrace include owls, a snake, snails, birds, bees, fish, fairies, toadstools and a stag. And that's just a few!

If you've read my front page, you know that I'm really excited about designing stickers this month. There is just something cool about turning hand-drawn art into a real sticker...I think it speaks to the kid in me that had gobs of Lisa Frank stickers on everything.
This blue bird design is my latest drawing, and I've just added it to my shops as a sticker (duh) and other products. I pretty much just based it on this Inktober illustration, because it was one of the popular ones, and I kinda liked it as well. I really wanted more bird in the image, and I like the circle motif with the roses better, too. So, while it certainly isn't Lisa Frank level of awesomeness, it is a sticker, and you can find it on Redbubble, or on my Society 6 account with a background on certain merchandise. Gift ideas for stickers: Give someone an extra surprise by slipping a sticker into their greeting card, book, blank journal, or other gift item that is sticker-worthy (think electronics! They always need decorating.) This happened today...the first zombie art I've done in yeeeeeaaaars. Okay, it's only a zombie at the most basic level. Reinventing yourself/starting fresh/breaking out of ruts has been sort of a topic here lately, and I was playing around with how to illustrate the concept and still make it interesting to look at. I'm not sure the zombie life is the best one to start over with (goals?) but she still looks pretty fresh so I think she will be okay. And it is also a little bit of a girl power message. Because don't we seem to get stuck in a lot of suffocating place sometimes? Well, here's to digging yourself out and starting over (with great hair). You can get it on a print, mug, tote bag and more here in my Redbubble shop. Stay tuned for even more products as soon as can get around to updating Zazzle as well. Cheers! Well...Inktober is over. Always some mixed feelings when that happens. I didn't keep up with the pace this year, which I thought would be easier since I was working on such small cards. But, I had some other projects going at the same time, as well as everyday life. There were several moments of artist block. I think you can look at the entire collection of cards up there and tell where I was uninspired or rushed. Still, it is always a fun challenge to try! |
