The Inktober prompt for today was "Filthy". So here is a witchy little pig getting filthy in a mudhole. Not my best by a longshot, but eh. At least I got one done.

And for today...the Inktober prompt was "Graceful". I was actually going to skip the prompt, but I was still a bit sick, and when you have fever and art supplies weird things happen. Like this rendition of "Sloth Lake". It might be slow, but it is definitely graceful. I will absolutely be expanding this one later on for products. I like the simple version, but one with foliage and colors would probably be cool too. A quick cartoon for Inktober today. Stuff just went wrong in real life and I had to let this one be kind of sloppy. Mostly, I had a fever and it was making me a bit dizzy to smell the Sharpies. (I don't know why, but my orange marker is pretty stinky compared to the others.) Yum. Anyhow, I like the idea here and will clean it up later for my Zazzle store. Because who doesn't need a coffee cup with a cartoon of a cat feeding pizza to a goldfish? Right? Isn't that on your Christmas list?? Oh the mysteries. Is this a bald person in front of scrolly wallpaper? Or is it someone with a lot of curly hair? I wanted to do a full-sized version of a little doodle I made a few weeks back. Today's prompt, "Mysterious", seemed like the right time. Because old portraits, whether they are photos or paintings, always do have an air of mystery about them. Who were these people? What were they thinking? What were their secrets? Finally! I've been waiting all month to draw this one! I had this idea as soon as I saw the prompt list. Here is the description from my Instagram post. It says it all: -- I once heard someone say that: "a woman who was confident and bold could move mountains and tame fierce creatures". I've been excitedly waiting to do this prompt because I had this idea stuck in my head all month. Whenever I see a woman express herself honestly and boldly thru her clothing, writing, art, actions, career, speech...I think "she can tame fierce creatures". And the outfit was also inspired by a gorgeous older woman I saw in the grocery store months ago. She was rocking her style and you could definitely tell she was strong enough to move mountains.-- So, a little bit of girl power going out there today. Okay...so I had to skip a day. I was seriously hoping to make all 31 days of Inktober, but I juuuust couldn't make yesterday happen.
My hand appreciated the break, however. And for this lovely Friday the 13th, I have a very un-Friday-the-13th drawing. This was because last night I was sure my creative ideas were completely tapped, so I asked my daughter for an idea to draw today. This represents the last time I ask a six year old for a drawing prompt. Oh how the ideas flowed from her bottomless imagination. "You should draw a fairy, but in a witch hat. And fairies love flowers, so draw flowers too, and then surround her with butterflies. LOTS of butterflies. Make her dress, like, butterflies, and butterflies around her and the flowers... " Since the official prompt for today was "Teeming", having a swarm of butterflies seemed like a great idea. Last night. The bees were my own addition, since I did not draw the mushrooms, the castle, and the swarms of baby fairy friends frolicking around like I was instructed. Also, this was supposed to be cute. And the harder I worked at cute, the creepier it got. So now I have something that looks kind of like a cross between a crucified scarecrow and a page from the Candyman's pin-up calendar. Cute. Since it's Friday the 13th, I just went with it. If I had paid attention to my calendar, I would have just drawn a black cat or something and called it an easy day. Lesson learned! Materials Used:
Today's prompt was "Run". I wanted to go a bit deeper than just a person (or thing) taking a jog or something.
I think one of the most amazing things a person can do for themselves is to run with their dreams. Especially if they are running away from advice that tells them they can't or shouldn't do something they love. I mean, unless what they love is something really, really illegal. That would be bad. But other than that, grab those dreams and make them come true, ya know? A bit of fun with a self portrait. The prompt for the day was "Gigantic". Today was also cold.
About me: I do not like to be cold. I mean, I'm the person who keeps a little space heater under my desk all year, and I've been known to sit at my desk in a sweater with the heat on, in JULY. Because my husband turns the air conditioning down to a brutal 68 if I'm not watching. Essentially, this drawing is how I feel on the first truly cold day of the year. (Which was a horrendous 58 degrees.) Also pretty much how I greet my husband on such frigid mornings when he gets up. You know how dogs stand by their food bowl and stare at you while you eat? I stand by the heater and stare at him until he gets the message and reluctantly allows the first official heater-lighting of the season. On the 9th Day of Inktober, my true love gave to--
Wait. Wrong month. :D Thankfully, no gave me 9 screeching cats like this one. He is really wailing his heart out on his pile of stolen Halloween decorations. Okay. So today's prompt was "Crooked"
When I drew up my original list of ideas for each day of Inktober, I had planned on a some little crooked buildings. Then today turned out to be an exceptionally perfect day, weatherwise, to get a little yard work done. Since my husband and I were both in the mood at the same time to tackle some big fall clean-up jobs, I wasn't gonna waste the opportunity! These were some pretty icky jobs, so we wanted to get them done before the weather turns cool. I didn't really have a lot of time left over for drawing something insanely detailed, and I almost decided to just skip today entirely. Luckily, I had a stack of blank index cards on my desk, and that gave me some inspiration. I could do a small drawing pretty fast. But what is "crooked"? Eh, I figured there would be tons of crooked houses, and probably a LOT of artwork centered around crooked politics or people. I decided to make a crooked "edge" instead. Okay. I was randomly drawing folded ribbons and trying to think of something to draw. The ribbon turned into the ice floe, and the sea turned into space, and my penguin ended up in one of those cute fishbowl helmets that are scientifically proven not to keep penguins alive in outer space. I'm sure I read a study on that somewhere. But it's my fantasy, and he can breathe in a fish bowl helmet if he wants to. So there. I can't wait to expand this idea into a full-size drawing! |
