In this new doodle tutorial, I'll show you how to draw a cute Valentine doodle. You don't need any special art supplies or a lot artistic skill. Just some grab some basic drawing tools and follow the step-by-step instructions and pictures. What You Will Need:
Got all that? Awesome. Let's draw... Step 1. Start by drawing a squashed oval. It doesn't have to be perfect or even. The lighter your pencil lines, the easier it will be to erase them when you are cleaning up your finished drawing. I used a pretty dark line here so that it would show up for the photos. Step 2. For the stem, a draw a couple of soft lines. A little wider at the bottom than at the top. Again, they don't have to be even or look the same. Step 3. Once you have the sides of your stem, connect them at the bottom. Again, a curvy line looks better than a straight line. Step 4. Now for the top. Find the approximate center of your stem, them go up as high as you want the top of your mushroom. From there, draw a softly waving line down the "corner" of your smushed oval shape. Do the same on the other side. The top can be "pointy-ish" like mine, or more rounded off. That part is up to you. Step 5. Erase that little bit of overlapping line running through your stem. Or you can wait and do that when you clean up the drawing at the end. It was bugging me though, so I went ahead and erased it. Step 6. Decorate the mushroom with small hearts. I also used small open dots on mine. Step 7. Turn your paper around to draw upside down and sideways hearts more easily. Make partial hearts near the edges. Step 8. Make some lines inside the oval shape. They don't have to be evenly spaced, they just need to represent that ruffly mushroom underside. Step 9. Extra details! Give your mushroom an easy happy face. I also added some more simple hearts and flowers, along with a few lines to be grass sprigs. You can go wild here. Add smaller mushrooms, more flowers, or whatever else you want. Now, let's ink it! Step 10. Now you can ink the lines. This is optional. You can darken your pencil lines if you prefer, or color it without a dark outline. For inking, I am using my Micron pen. This can be really be done with any pen though, including an ultra-fine Sharpie or a gel pen. I use the Micron pen because it doesn't smear when I use markers over it. It also doesn't wick/bleed across the cardstock like a 'juicier' pen would. If you aren't sure how your art supplies will react to each other, test them on a scrap of whatever paper of card you are drawing on. Step 11. Erase all the pencil pencil marks. Be sure to let your ink dry before doing this! I didn't wait and ended up smearing the eyes a little. Once its all cleaned up, it is time to color! Step 12. For coloring, I'm using cheap alcohol markers. Any markers will work, even Crayolas! You can also use colored pencils, crayons or watercolors. Just remember to check how well they work on a scrap piece of your drawing paper first. And there you have it. A fun, Valentine mushroom doodle. Here are a few things you can do with it:
